It’s unfair and sheer injustice that Andaman Islands, claimed to be ‘land of pilgrimage’ has to shelter officers like Bharadwaj, who for all wrong reasons was in news recently. The outpost syndrome and the apathetic attitude by Govt of India towards the Islands have already stagnated its growth by more than half a century. Why the Islands are turning into a dump yard of corrupt and tainted officers?
SC Bharadwaj, Jail superintendent of Delhi's Tihar Jail, caught giving preferential services to high-profile inmates like Suresh Kalmadi, has been given 'Kalapani' as a punishment. Bhardwaj is also accused of bending the jail rules and giving special treatments to other high-profile inmates.
One more dishonest officer is going to join the ANI Administration. We will now have an officer, who will keep his bosses happy, when they visit the Islands for “administrative reasons” and will keep bending the rules and regulations here.
If the attitude of treating the Islands like an outpost or a jail continues, development will be the first casualty. Officials landing here have no choice but to while away their time. Some take it positively and enjoy the three-year picnic. Others, with low morale, keep shuttling between Mainland and Island, least concerned about their responsibilities....
