No.....but i was in Andaman for three years that was from 2002-2005
ya,
yes my dear
Another new player joins the bandwagon- GO AIR . The Cartel expands – the traveller has nothing to gain at all however. Fares to and from Port Blair to Kolkata /Chennai remain as exorbitant as ever .
It is needless to give illustrations or details as they are all available on the web and can be readily verified – but the point is –IS ANYBODY REALLY INTERESTED?
Inspite of the fact that Andaman & Nicobar Islands are cut off from the mainland and have no rail/road transport facilities- the only alternative being travelling by ship ( leaving Kolkata /Chennai Ports once in a week or ten days and taking 3-4 days time ) air travel remains highly exorbitant.
Would a general traveller from the metros to other cities on a 2 hour flight be ready to shell out 10000=00 plus generally and even 20000=00 plus at times (if on an immediate purchase ticket) ? The answer is anybody’s guess!!
Is this also not corruption in a different form ? Squeezing out money from the consumer ,taking advantage of the non – availability of alternatives !!
For similar dates a Kolkata- Delhi flight (same duration of 2 hours) costs half or even one fourth of the corresponding fares for Port Blair-Kolkata or vice versa. The same holds good for a 2 hour haul from Chennai too !!
Is the ever eager and anxious media not prepared to take up such a issue which in the interest of the people who are separated from the mainland by 1200 kms of sea!!
The print and visual media has come of age – and it is but expected that such issues are taken up threadbare and the nexus behind the entire understanding of maintaining the fares at a pre determined level – is exposed !!
The islanders are looking forward to some response from the ever vigilant media !!
Please come forward to show your social commitment !!
