CONFUSION, CLASH OF INDIVIDUAL EGO

MAR 2012 REPUBLIC DAY CELEBRATION AT RANGAT GROUND

The 63rd Republic Day celebration at Rangat had been under the cloud of confusion, which later took the shape of “an ego clash” over who would hoist the national flag at the official function at Rangat ground - the Adhyaksh N&M Andamans (Congress candidate) or the Pramukh Rangat (BJP candidate). As per the prevailing practice Pramukh, Rangat Samiti had been hoisting national flag at the official function at Rangat ground. But this time, it was speculated that Adyaksh N&M Andamans would take the honour. The speculation turned out to be true as the Adhyaksh N&M Andamans emerged on the dais and hoisted the flag at the Rangat ground on the appointed day. Thus shattered the honor and privilege, bestowed upon the Pramukh Rangat samity 16 year ago when PRI system was implemented (1995).

When I was a kid, i.e. early 80's two students died and many got injured due to police firing in RANGAT due to ego clash for hoisting national flag. The conflict was between Circle Inspector and Education Officer hoisting the flag. Therefore I believe the whole business of flag hoisting should be transferred to the Defense forces, and hoisting should be done by official sent from portblair. After few years protocol must be established for flag hoisting by local officials.

Peoples representative should be part of the function and support it by doing or launching social service campaign and public review / presentation of work  done by him the previous year under his leadership.

Well said Dear Mr Anirban Choudhury.
Following death of a student at Rangat by a bullet shot by Police during RD, there were protests all over the island. I was studying at Middle School Kanyapuram in primary class during that time and participated in rally around Wimberly Gunj. One day we walked from Wimberly Gunj to Bambooflat (about 6Km) to record our protest.

The situation demands a defined protocol for all state functions, so as to prevent recurrence of such unpleasant scene. Who so ever takes the honours, should be allowed to do it with full confidence.

Dear All !

First of all the right of hoisting the Tricolour on Republic day is allways rests with the head of the Republic ie the Governmental head. Eg DC/SDM of Rangat and not the elected VIP . Moreover, all PRIs are only forum creatyed for develomemt of the area and they are not peoples representaives who sit in any assemblie that regulate the administration. In the present situation The PM should have hoisted the flag at Delhi Rajpath.
