Should all our muncipal councillours should have atleast a bachelor's degree ?

As we have many leaders of islands who are there in local govt. bodies like Muncipal council and Zilla Parishad who does'nt even have any knowledge of development as they are not educated. So should we have educated leaders who can hear our voice and plan a proper infrastructure for our islands? Even many people holding top positions in the Govt. offices doesn't even know the spelling of development.

Absolutely they should be graduate and posses extra qualification in social work...

The quality of our politicians these days are one should be a gunnda or have an association with them..
in one of the instance one popular politician asked for namkin when he wanted napkin to wipe of his hand.in our area.
yes off course.... In today's lighting fast world, we need officers who are at least knowledgeable enough to understand the prevailing problems and sort out innovative remedies to this problem, and it can only be possible if they have a sound education. How can a un educated minister or a councilor tackle situations, which may break out any moment, and he or she may not have a single word to explain it out. Other than giving Dharna's and going on strike's todays reputed officers dosn't know any thing, Many of them even do not know to use a cellular phone properly, How can they understand anything in todays world of computers....

What if you ask them about Cyber crime... and things like Hakking,... Aero-space reserch etc.... you can find them mouth shut. they wont even utter a word , as most of them have know idea of all what these things are.

Once on a particular incident of Cyber Crime, When asked by a police officer in port blair. After a continous conversation of the scene of crime for around an hour, the officer was not able to understand any thing, later on another officer explained him the incident in "Desi style"

"Sir is ka computer ka taala gum gaya hai. aur is ke chavi jis ko mila, wo aadmi kolkatta me hai abhi. wo admi ka ppas chavi hai, aur wo computer ka sara samaan chori kar raha hai, abhi Kolkatta me baith kar"

over here Taal and Chavi are meant for PASSWORD
This is not a local issue, this is more or less happening across india... Madhu Koda ko hi Dekh lo... he got power, was unable to manage the funds he made.... if he had a well educated background "wat is the Issue then". It doesn't mean that no top politicians have money in India... Koda seems to be a SHISHU only... big scams happening, and no body knows and cares that....
"Jokes Apart" The Positive side is that at least the Issue's can be well Judged and Solved with a good pace, with the best of outputs... Same are the local conditions too... each Councillor if has a good knowledge can understand the local conditions and can think for a better port blair tomorrow.
Its a good thought. But why only Councillors and zilla members.why not MLA's and MP's.The thinking behind not having educational qualification mandatory for elected representatives was that the last Indian down the line should also have an Opurtunity to contest the Elections. But todays situation demands common sence and minimum education to derive work out of bureacrats. But Education is not the issue. The Issue is wrong people come into politics by way of muscle and money power. It is the fault of people who vote for them and educated people like us who have lot of things to write and speak but don't go to Vote.
yes you are abosuletly right !

I differ in this and would like to comment on this. I feel there is a big difference between a literate and an educated person. A illeterate may be an educated person say for example a farmer.....he knows more about his crop and soil than a teacher of teh same village similarly a literate person may not be able to make sence of the reply written here. Its a matter of matching the person and the work done by him......if there is a mismatch it would reflect in the results and its obvious, So i guess people with real intention to serve the common man should take up politics as a career.....and not by those who pretend.

Thank you.
when i was young i heard people saying polictics is the last resort of a scoundrel ...... but these days things have changed. its become a profession and the people are making it as career ............. older politicians were those dedicated ones..... and the passionate type......presently its to have money / muscle power/////////////////////////// and all wises they join politics........... but still there are few dedicated people who take politics seriously.........................../////////////////////// making promises like our mp's but fail to achieve................................. i am going very harsh............................. let me anchor the topic and say that any one joining politics should take it seriously......................
Hi,Shibu, well said.I don't disagree with you.Even today you find such type of persons in politics.Idon't want to spell out that word. But whose fault is this.We cannot put benchmarks for politics.its upto the people to decide whom they want and whom they don't.About failed promises without a policy making body one can just request and not order anything.
Sir,
I agree to what you say as to a muncipal councillours should have atleast a bachelors degree .But then you may have to define degree .I know a lot of people who possess postgraduate degrees who cannot spell or support theire degrees.Since they are a political apointee it is difficult. But certainly the govt could make amendments and could lay out basic qualification necesassary to contest a muncipal election.
THE BALL IS STILL IN THEIRE COURT IF THEY WILL THEY CAN BRING THE CHANGE(POLITICIAN)
If politicians get educated then they should be called as diplomats or beaurocrats, most of the so called yester year politicians are educated , but in strikes agitations, Andamans is a safe place , but if we move to any main land place in India, most of the politicians have degree of Gundagiri & fraud , If we look to the profile of elected MP's of India most of them have one or other civil or criminal cases against them, some are contesting from the prison and some come from the prison to cast thier vote in the praliament in case of vote on account . If educated they will go through rules and through rules development will take a long time, but by threat things will be done quickly :-D
T N seshan the former election commissioner opened a school to educate the upcoming politicians, what happened to that?
its correct
